IN THIS PODCAST: Pam Falk, CBS News Correspondent, joins Dan Michaels and Amy Iler on the latest news concerning the rescue of the Thai under-16 soccer team.
Thai rescuers are racing against time and the forecast as they work to pump out water from inside a flooded cave before they can extract 12 boys and their soccer coach. A firefighter who has been working on draining the water says levels in parts of a passage leading to a chamber where the boys and the coach were found is still flooded all the way to the ceiling, making diving the only way out.
A retired Thai Navy SEAL died while helping the attempted rescue of a boys’ soccer team from a flooded cave. The diver, identified as 38-year-old Saman Kunam, fell unconscious from a lack of oxygen and died shortly after, heightening concerns about how the group of boys and their coach might safely escape.
The latest: Elon Musk has an idea!
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk tweeted on Friday that engineers from his firms – SpaceX and The Boring Company – were heading to Thailand to see if they could assist the rescue.
The firms have “advance ground penetrating radar” that is “pretty good at digging holes” or technology that could “create an air tunnel underwater” for the children to traverse, Musk said earlier.
The Thai government said Musk’s team could help the rescue operation with location tracking, water pumping or battery power. (
