SEE IT: SKYSCRAPPER
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line. This one isn’t for everybody – it is non-stop action. Over the top sequences and a lot of mediocre comedy. If you need to waste a few hours, this is the new popcorn flick of the week.
STREAM IT: GLOW Season 2
GLOW stands for The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. This series is the fictional re-telling of a true story from the 80s. A female answer to the wrestling phenomenon of the 80s. A cast of colorful characters who play even weirder characters in the ring, this is one of the best casts to hit Netflix in a very long time. Marc Maron stars as the salty promoter of GLOW and steals the show scene after scene. If you dig 80’s music, 80’s fashion or 80’s food – this series is right up your alley! Season 1 has been on Netflix for a year and the second season is now available.
SKIP IT: THE FIRST PURGE
The Purge series is pretty simple. One night out of the year, no laws apply to US citizens. They can steal, they can vandalize and they can kill. The plotline of the series, which is up to four films now, claims that by allowing folks to go nuts one night a year, it virtually wipes out crime for the other 364 days. The latest is a story about the first time the US tried The Purge. It claims to be political and timely, my opinion is that it is overdone and can be skipped…unless you want to argue with your friends about whether or not this could REALLY happen one day…
