Simone Wai joins Amy Iler & JJ Gordon with the good news: IT’S OPENING WEEKEND OF THE RED RIVER MARKET! The farmers market in Downtown Fargo is set to kick off their 4th season on Saturday, July 14th at 10am with 70
vendors offering locally sourced produce, baked goods, meats, eggs, flowers, coffee, household
goods, ready to eat foods, and more.
Last year, over 100,000 visitors filled the aisles of the market and this year organizers expect
that number will grow. The market will return to its location at Broadway & 4th Ave N in the
parking lot surrounding the Broadway Garage at 409 Broadway. Visitors will enjoy a wide variety
of vendors all from a 200 mile radius of Fargo, three live musical performances, and educational
programming every Saturday. This year, improvements to the market’s venue at the Broadway Garage includes a large turf
play space, more seating areas, and two stages allowing for both live music and educational
programming including cooking demonstrations and children’s book readings. On opening day,
music will be provided by Eric Jacobson and The Jazz Committee. Kids and families can enjoy
lawn games, the Imagination Playground, and activities with YMCA.The Red River Market has partnered with local organizations to fulfill their mission of making
fresh and local food accessible to all. MATBUS will provide free bus rides to and from the
market to all riders with a printed pass. Passes are available on the Red River Market and
MATBUS websites.Users on SNAP food assistance will receive twice the value in eligible foods at the market.
When SNAP users swipe their cards for tokens at the market info booth, they will receive a
dollar for dollar match up to $10, making $10 worth $20 sponsored by Essentia Health. After
market day ends, any surplus food from produce vendors will be collected by the NDSU
Extension Master Gardeners and donated to Great Plains Food Bank. The Red River Market is organized by Folkways, a community building organization that creates
experiences to connect people and increase their quality of life.
