Amy Iler and JJ Gordon meet and greet a handful of folks who have a hand in the yearly event known to hundreds of thousands as the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion.
From past presidents to folks who travel over 700 miles to be a part of history, you can get a great feel of why people keep coming back year after year to see these marvels of modern (at the time) pieces of farm machinery.
Imagine a steam powered tractor that is older than most buildings in your town. Now imagine that it still runs, it looks like it just rolled off of an implement lot and now imagine the folks behind the care and restoration of equipment like this. It’s more than a hobby, it’s a skill that gets passed down to younger generations through hands on training. A lot of that training and expertise is handled right here in our neck of the woods. Rollag, MN is home to the world famous thresher party that attracts thousands every Labor Day weekend and throughout the summer.
Oh yeah, you can also get one of the tastiest cups of coffee in the world. It’s coffee with an egg in it – ask your grandmother or anyone who attends a rural Lutheran church. Their eyes are gonna light up when you mention it!
