There is a world of opportunity for high school seniors looking to earn a college degree and the more options available – the more important it has become to be organized, timely and thorough when applying.
(Tom Reburn in the KFGO studios)
Tom Reburn is the Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Minnesota State University Moorhead and he tells It Takes 2 that October 1st is the opening for FAFSA aid applications, MSUM housing applications and you shouldn’t waste time when it comes to applying for your post high school college or university.

If you are a current high school senior:
1. Look at your options. The sooner you start looking at and visiting schools, the wider your options will be when it comes time to make a final decision.
2. Don’t wait until the due date for essays, financial paperwork or test dates. Get them out of the way. We both know an extra month is not going to be filled with 24/7 cramming for the ACT. Take the test now. Fill out the paperwork now. It is much easier to fix or change the form with a nice lead time.
3. Ask questions. Did your parents like their colleges? Do your friends, cousins, neighbors, etc like their college? Do you want to move to a larger city – why? Do you want to concentrate on saving money – how much? When taking a tour, ask the hard hitting questions – how close in the nearest fast food joint? What is your post graduate job placement percentage? These people are not just accepting YOU, you are also accepting them.
If you are the parent or guardian of a high school senior
1. See above, but add “Have you done this yet? Get on it!”
2. Follow through, ask your teen questions and remember that nagging won’t get those forms done, but sitting together at the kitchen table with BOTH phones put away will get you along faster!
