If you’ve cruised through Facebook the last few days, you’ve probably noticed a new trend that is occupying your news feed. Folks are taking their first profile picture (or one from 10 years ago) and their current profile pic, combining them together and letting their friends and family see the changes in a decade.
Some people are rejoicing in the wrinkles or commenting on how silly they were 10 years ago…but is there a sinister plot behind this social media trend?
Amy and JJ turned to their favorite Tech Analyst – Larry Magid, the man behind

to get his take on the situation.
Could Facebook be using the side by side to feed into a facial recognition app? Is it just a cheap way to get users back onto their platform? Are you risking anything by taking part?
Larry’s short answer is – No. There doesn’t seem to be any shadowy details and, he points out, if Facebook wanted to use a picture from a decade ago compared to today – they have more than enough computing power and legal right to do it WITHOUT your consent.
Rest easy, fellow conspiracy theorists. There are still plenty of dirty dealings being done via social media. For example, watch out for those apps within Facebook…
