The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony has been delighting audiences for decades and their upcoming concert continues to build on a brand that is known for professionalism and fun.
Chris Zimmerman is the conductor that the symphony has put their trust into when they are tasked to choose arrangements, musicians and new ways to engage audiences from across the region. Chris joins IT2 to talk about some of the electrical elements that are going into the Masterworks Concert this weekend.
Let’s start with a surprise. There will be some trumpeters in the audience. Engaging in almost a conversation of notes, trumpeters will be playing while off the stage and in the area occupied by the audience. How about some surprise tuba blats as well. The pieces chosen for this concert are playful and light as well as some familiar tunes that movie goers who have seen “The Red Violin” may also pick up on.
Another highlight involves the FM Youth Orchestra. A young floutist or a newbie cello player will take the stage and sit beside their professional counterpart to play in a duel piece tune that will feature both young and old together. It’s a stage manager’s nightmare, since the sheer amount of music stands and chairs will barely fit on the stage at the NDSU Festival Concert Hall – but cramped quarters only mean that the audience will be seeing one of the largest orchestras ever to perform in our region.
