Carrie Knutson is one a member of Cass Act Players, a local theater company that (even though they are new-ish) have a reputation for putting on thought provoking work and some feature local playwrights.
Carrie joins IT2 for a discussion about “Weather the Storm” a brand new MUSICAL about the community who come together after a devastating tornado. Author Tracy Frank took the stories and photos she found during a journalism assignment and crafted a story that will feel familiar to those who have lived through a life threatening storm. For those who lived through the 1957 tornado in Fargo – this will feel more than familiar, it will be close to seeing living history.
Characters who wouldn’t speak to each other in close company during the beginning of the show (before the tornado) are now forced to find strength in each other moving through the rubble (after the tornado).
Cass Act Players say this about “Weather the Storm”
“Inspired by the deadliest storm in North Dakota history — the 1957 tornado that killed 12 people, injured over 100 and destroyed more than 300 homes in Fargo — Weather the Storm is a musical about a fractured community brought together by disaster. With book and lyrics by Tracy Frank of West Fargo and music and lyrics by Topher Williams of Fargo, this show explores some of the social challenges of the 1950s, the true meaning of community, and the connections that can either bond us or break us. Whether you’re laughing with the “pie ladies” as they compete to see who makes the best hotdish, or reaching for your tissues as families beg lost loved ones to return home, Weather the Storm will tug at your heartstrings as it reminds you what matters most in life.”
