This week, Dave gets a lot of questions from the text club and some very specific questions from callers. The longest running show on KFGO – Plant Talk is better than Google when it comes to your lawn or garden.

Shandra is having problems with Foxgloves and Dave informers her that this is more of an annual plant and shouldn’t expect it to grow again the next year – but be careful about over watering!
A texter had new sod installed and was wondering about mowing. The short answer is, put the mower as high as it can go and allow the grass to have as much height as possible. PRO TIP – Dave also informs us that just watering new sod at the same level for a long period will hurt potential growth. Weening the grass from a heavy watering everyday will force the roots to grow down and set the sod. Little by little, water less each day.
Tom has questions about controlling the weeds in his lawn. He has used two different weed control solutions, but he is still seeing mallow –

– and asks what he can do. The prince of pruning suggest that he pick up an Ortho product for hard to control weeds. Even though Tom has already used two different herbicides, Dave isn’t concerned about adding a third one, they should all be different chemicals and not have any lasting consequences.
If you didn’t hear last week – Dave said a home remedy for ants would be to sprinkle Cream of Wheat or Farina in the area around the ant hills. They can eat this stuff, but can’t digest it. Folks have been writing in to KFGO all week for this tip and telling us about how great it worked. Cheap, safe and if you only use half of it…you have breakfast leftover too!
