Lara Spencer from Good Morning, America recently had to eat some crow after laughing and suggesting that young Prince George (son of Prince William and third in line for the British crown) was odd for having ballet as one of his upcoming classes.
The backlash was immediate.
It Takes Two with Amy and JJ invited local dancer and arts advocate Patrick Kasper on to talk about his personal experience being a boy who took dance classes and turned that into a career as an adult.
Patrick notes that Lara Spencer has apologized and thinks that, while unfortunate the comments took place, the national attention has been good for those who allow their children to learn ballet.
Dancing and theater are passions for Patrick and his dance lessons began after seeing Eddie Gasper dance and hearing stories of how he had performed on Broadway and in the movies.
Teasing was something that he had to deal with, but found that no matter how much outsiders might have bullied – the arts community support each other enough to let those nasty comments disappear.
Hear Patrick’s story in the podcast above!
