As the kiddos get dressed up in their costumes for an evening of Trick-or-Treating around the neighborhood, we should all be thankful that temperatures will be chilly – but not below zero and without feet of snow!
Too Tall Tom Szymanski is the radar watching, weather pattern analyzing, doppler dude of the KFGO team. He’s been at this meteorology game for awhile and that includes the historic Halloween blizzard of 1991.
Stationed in Bangor, Maine, Too Tall talks about how this storm was actually two separate storms that crossed paths to create a perfect storm. In fact, the movie “The Perfect Storm” uses this weather event as a reference.
In Minnesota, the area around the Lake Superior saw the heaviest hit. Snow was measured in feet – not inches – and it fell fast. Stories of roadways disappearing and bringing the region to a screeching halt were told for years to come. The Upper Midwest saw snow, sleet and freezing rain – a dangerous hat trick as this uncharacteristically early storm marched across the countryside.
As for this year, don’t fear a pile of snow in your front yard. Cooler temps, around 40 degrees and not too many clouds should give your ghouls and goblins a nice evening to collect all the treats they can carry!
