Deadly Virus
The deadly coronavirus is making headlines. The death toll has risen to 17 in China with confirmed cases nearing 550; officials have begun to impose travel restrictions. Researchers believe the virus originated in snakes or bats.
Dr. Clemenson, from IMA Healthcare, says the virus causes severe sore throat, fever, chills and severe pneumonia. And, there is no treatment.
Masks are a good idea
First, the most important thing is that you are washing your hands. If you touch your eyes and nose, that is how the viruses ‘get in’.
And, there is some good science that says a mask will help with these viruses.
Wearing a mask if you are sick is most helpful in preventing the spread of viruses. And when you are healthy, it helps some.
In 2008, a study showed masks were effective at reducing the spread of viral infections, by 80%, to family members of kids who had them.
However, if you really want the highest level of protection, make sure it’s not a basic paper mask. There are medical-grade masks with the notation of “N 95” that will be most effective.
