Dolly Parton got a royal sendoff in London the morning after her death.
The Band of the Coldstream Guards performed Dolly’s classic “9 to 5” outside Buckingham Palace during the Changing of the Guard ceremony Wednesday, as tourists watched.
The Royal Family shared video of the tribute, writing, “Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many,” and ended with a nod to another Dolly classic: “We will always ❤️ you.”
Dolly actually had a connection to the Royal Family going back nearly 50 years. She performed for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977, later calling meeting the Queen “one of the biggest thrills” of her life and describing her as “very warm, very sweet.”
And in 2023, Dolly revealed she’d been invited to have tea with Kate Middleton, but had to turn it down because she was busy promoting an album. In typical Dolly fashion, she joked, “She wasn’t going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no.”
Dolly’s Imagination Library also expanded into the U.K. in 2007, giving British children free books — another connection specifically mentioned by the Royal Family in its tribute.
