The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance issued the following statement after Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry Chairman John Boozman scheduled a meeting of the full Committee to consider the farm bill on August 6, 2026.
“The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance supports any step that brings us closer to enacting a bipartisan five-year farm bill before the end of this year. We look forward to working with members of the Senate Agriculture Committee to further improve the base text with key enhancements for specialty crop producers.”
The SCFBA is co-chaired by Cathy Burns, CEO of the International Fresh Produce Association; Mike Joyner, President of the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association; Dave Puglia, President and CEO of Western Growers; and Kam Quarles, CEO of the National Potato Council.
American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall applauded the release of farm bill text and notice of a Senate Ag markup.
“When you look across the spectrum of agriculture, there is one piece of legislation that touches almost every farm in America, and that’s the farm bill, so it’s time for Congress to get it done.
“We’re grateful to Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman for releasing farm bill text and are encouraged that we can achieve a bipartisan bill that can get across the finish line. We appreciate the Administration’s call for Congress to move this process forward and urgently deliver a farm bill to the President’s desk.
“The bill includes important provisions beyond traditional farm bill program support, including authorizing the sale of E15 blended fuel year-round, expanding investments in specialty crops and measures to reduce input price volatility. We’re also calling on Congress to deliver a fix for interstate commerce issues as well as much-needed economic aid for agriculture.
“We’ve lost 200,000 farms in a decade, and a modernized farm bill will help stabilize the struggling farm economy. We’re calling on the Senate Agriculture Committee to advance the bill out of markup and send it forward for full Senate passage and ultimately the president’s signature.”
Senate Agriculture Committee chairman John Boozman on July 31st released revised legislative text for Farm Bill 2.0, the Agricultural Act of 2026. that will deliver vital support to farmers, ranchers, foresters and rural communities. The updated bill includes new language authorizing year-round sales of E15 and extending the timeline for states to restore the integrity of SNAP benefits through improved administration that reduces payment error rates.
“Farm Bill 2.0 is built for the people who feed America. Farm families are facing extremely challenging circumstances, with some deciding it’s not worth continuing their operations. This bill strengthens the future of agriculture, supports rural communities and provides farmers, ranchers and producers with indispensable resources and tools, all of which serve to ensure America’s food security for generations to come. Members on both sides of the aisle will find their priorities reflected in this bill. It also responds to concerns that states need additional time to strengthen administration of SNAP benefits and reduce payment error rates with a commonsense solution. We owe it to our dedicated farmers to move this legislation across the finish line and to the president’s desk to be signed into law. I look forward to next week’s markup,” Boozman said.
