EAST GRAND FORKS, ND (KFGO) – An early morning garage fire spread to a nearby home Tuesday, causing moderate damage to the house before firefighters brought the flames under control.
The East Grand Forks Fire Department responded at 5:31 a.m. to a report of a structure fire on the 400 block of Fifth Avenue NE.
Fire units found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames, and the roof of the structure had already collapsed.
The fire extended into the attic of the neighboring home, causing moderate damage to the northwest corner of the house. Firefighters confirmed that no one was inside the residence at the time.
Crews pulled multiple hose lines to attack the fire and protect exposed properties. The blaze was contained within 15 minutes of firefighters arriving on the scene and was fully extinguished within 45 minutes, according to a department news release.
Neighboring properties to the north and south sustained minor heat damage to their siding.
The East Grand Forks Fire Department responded with seven apparatus and 24 personnel. The East Grand Forks Police Department, East Grand Forks Water and Light, and Altru Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
