MADDOCK, N.D. (KFGO) – A man was arrested after an hours long standoff involving Minot SWAT near Maddock, North Dakota yesterday. The Benson County Sheriff’s Office says the man is facing charges of terrorizing after waving and pointing a gun at officers for around three hours.
Deputies were called to the rural property for a report of a stolen vehicle, the man refused to exit the vehicle despite attempts from officers to negotiate by drone. Minot SWAT used a Bearcat to help arrest the man. When he surrendered he was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The man was taken to the hospital and later air-flighted. He has not been identified.
In addition to terrorizing, the man could also face theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle charges.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Wells County Sheriff’s Office, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, Rugby Police, North Dakota BCI, Lake Region Narcotics Task Force, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Lake Region UAS, Maddock Fire and Ambulance and Towner County Ambulance all assisted the Benson County Sheriff’s Office with the stand off.
