FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) — Triple-A is looking to reduce injuries for e-bike and scooter riders with its E-Ride Ready campaign.
Triple-A says that with the rise in popularity of e-bikes and scooters, knowledge and a little prevention can help riders stay safe.
In North Dakota, they are treated the same as regular bikes, and don’t require riders be licensed or have insurance. They can also be operated anywhere that regular bikes are allowed.
While there is no minimum age to ride an e-bike in North Dakota, state law does require anyone under 18 to wear a helmet.
Families should also know the speed and capabilities of their e-bikes.
“All cyclists of all ages, wearing a helmet is very important. When you’re on the roadway, obeying the laws of the road, we’re sharing the road with motorists. Motorists as well recognize that bikes have the full right to be there in all their various e-classes and regular pedal bikes. So sharing the road and all of us getting along, following the rules,” said Tom Smith, Manager at Great Northern Bicycle Company.
In Minnesota, the minimum age to operate an e-bike is 15 years old.
