ST. PAUL, MN (KFGO) – Minneapolis Police Sgt. Anna Hedberg told a state senate committee Wed. that damage to the city could have been less severe and the 3rd Precinct could have been defended if top officials had ordered in reinforcements that were on standby early in the Minneapolis riots.
Hedberg testified at the Capitol, “I was in the command post. I heard it, I heard the governor say, give it up. It wasn’t directly to me, it was through a phone call, how the governor says, give up the precinct.”
Hedberg later acknowledged she got that information third-hand.
A Walz spokesman responded that the allegation that the governor said, “give up the precinct,” is not true, that the state did not assume operational control until the following day and noted that Mayor Jacob Frey earlier said it was his decision to abandon the building to prevent loss of life.
