Donald Trump clearly remains in charge of the Republican Party. If you don’t believe me, you just need to ask Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana or Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky. Both of those individuals crossed Trump and neither will be on the fall ballot.
In Cassidy’s case, he wasn’t afraid to point out that Presidents should have to follow the law, and if they don’t, they should be impeached. In Massie’s case, he simply believes men who raped little girls shouldn’t get away with it. He pushed for the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, and that didn’t sit well with Donald.
All of this caused Trump to begin his latest revenge tour. He recruited and supported candidates that would do exactly what he wanted when he wanted. And not like he has more likely members of Congress ready to obey his every command.
The bigger question is why anyone would give him their total support. They know Trump is a liar. They know he’s been found guilty of sexual abuse. They know he’s a grifter, and yet, he still is the Republican Party. Despite his approval rating among Independents being 26%, the lowest of any sitting President ever.
The answer is: Republicans love him.
They love is a no-holds-barred brand of politics. They love how everyday he gives them something to laugh and smile about when he degraded women and people of color. They love how he entertains by attacking women in the media he doesn’t find attractive. But most of all, they love how he wins.
The new Republican Party doesn’t care about our national debt. They don’t care if we’ve become the laughing stock of our allies. And they don’t care if he’s wrecked our economy. They don’t care if he blackmails them. They just care if he wins, and for that, they’ll sell their soul.
Good riding with you,
Joel
