(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton had to be carted off the field during last night’s intra-squad scrimmage with a foot injury.
His status will likely be updated today once test results come back, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. Baldelli says the initial “once-over” didn’t show anything serious, which he takes as a cautiously optimistic first sign about the injury. Baldelli says they will know more later today. Buxton was limited to just 87 games last season due to various injuries. The 26-year-old has played just one full season in 2017.
The Twins will continue to scrimmage and work out today at Target Field. Minnesota will open the 60-game regular season one week from Friday against the White Sox in Chicago. The home opener is two weeks from today against the St. Louis Cardinals.
