HAWLEY, Minn. (KFGO KVRR) – Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson says she is staying in the race for Minnesota House District 4A and plans to take part in the Democratic primary on August 11.
Carlson lost the DFL endorsement over the weekend to political newcomer Erika Yoney during the Clay-Becker endorsing convention in Hawley. She is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and says there are no nurses or mental health practitioners currently serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
In a release, Yoney said she won the endorsement in decisive fashion.
“I am incredibly honored and grateful for the strong show of support from DFL delegates from Moorhead” said Yoney. “This endorsement is a reflection of the hard work, conversations, and shared belief that our community deserves leadership that listens, shows up, and delivers.”
Democrat Kevin Salisbury, a Moorhead firefighter, dropped out of the race in early March. Republican Andrew Rockhold is also in the race.
The District 4A seat is held by Democrat Rep. Heather Keeler, who is running for Congress in Minnesota’s 7th District.
Democratic Sen. Rob Kupec of Moorhead was also endorsed in Minnesota Senate District 4.
