BISMARCK, N.D. (North Dakota Monitor) – Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the North Dakota Capitol Monday after a person with a gun threatened suicide on the Capitol grounds, according to the Bismarck Police Department.
Armed with a pistol, the person did not make any threats to the public, Lt. Luke Gardiner said in a news release issued early Monday afternoon.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol, Bismarck police and other agencies secured a perimeter around the Capitol and restricted access to the grounds while officers worked toward a safe and peaceful resolution, Gardiner said. Police received the report about 2 p.m. and the incident was resolved safely just before 6 p.m., authorities said.
Capitol employees and state lawmakers received a shelter-in-place advisory from the Highway Patrol, as well as an update about which exits were safe for employees to use.
