MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Moorhead Police say a suspect is in custody after shots were fired Friday morning. The shots fired call came in around 4:45 and a second call came in around a half hour later. Police responded to a residence in the 1100 block of 3rd St. S, where a gun was on the front steps. Officers spoke with some one inside the residence by phone. The suspect exit the home for apprehension before retreating back inside residence and fleeing with a gun.

Those in the area around Concordia College and Eventide were asked to shelter in place while police searched for the suspect.
“Officers set up a perimeter, we sent out an alert to the neighborhood to put them in a shelter in place and they started to search using K9 teams and a drone unit.” Moorhead Police Chief Chris Helmick said.
The suspect was located in the backyard of a residence by a K9 unit. Moorhead Police took the suspect into custody, they were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
“At this point we don’t know what his intent was, what, who this person is, we’re still working on those details.” Helmick said.
Helmick says no one else was hurt and there are no other suspects in the incident. Moorhead Fire, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol assisted with the Incident.

Police say they were in contact with Moorhead Area Public Schools and Concordia.
