MOORHEAD (KFGO) – A man arrested after shots were fired and a shelter in place was issued in Moorhead early Friday morning has been identified by police.
He’s Malachi Shabaiash, 28, of Moorhead.
Police responded to a neighborhood near Concordia College where the man was inside a home. Officers found a rifle on the front steps. The man agreed to come out before retreating back inside. He then went out a back door with another rifle. Police searched with a K9 unit and a drone. Shabaiash was located by the dog and taken into custody. He suffered minor injuries during the arrest and was taken to the hospital. He was later taken to the Clay County Jail.
Police later said Shabaiash had earlier fired at a car that contained people he knew. The car was impounded for the collection of evidence. Police say the car was struck by gunfire several times.
Moorhead fire, Clay County sheriff’s deputies and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted Moorhead police.
