Nancy Trottier (Stutsman County Jail)
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (KFGO) – A long-time North Dakota resident, who has been living in Arizona, has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of her newborn daughter in April of 1981.
The body of the infant, who became known as “Baby Rebecca” in Valley City, was found in a wooded area of the Valley City State University campus. The baby’s body was exhumed in 2019. Barnes County State’s Attorney Tonya Duffy filed the murder charge Monday against Nancy Trottier, 65, of Sun Lakes, Arizona.
An autopsy determined that the baby was suffocated shortly after birth.
The complaint says a genetic genealogy report from a third party tied the baby’s DNA to Trottier, who was attending Valley City State University at the time of the death.
Attorney General Drew Wrigley says police deserve credit for not giving up on the case.
Trottier is in the Stutsman County Jail in Jamestown.
