FARGO (KFGO) — Heavy, wet snow caused travel headaches across the region Saturday morning.
Bands of heavy snowfall set up across central Cass County in North Dakota through Polk County in Minnesota. Nearly 3 inches of snow fell between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. at the KFGO studios in south Fargo.
The snowfall rates caused visibility issues in the southern Valley. Visibility was down to a half-mile in Fargo early Saturday.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol and Minnesota State Patrol responded to crashes caused by snow on the roadways. Several were reportedly due to drivers being unable to tell where the road was underneath the snow.
Travel in town was impacted as heavy snow knocked down tree branches. Fargo Police warned drivers that several roads were blocked due to fallen trees and power lines.
The heavy snowfall also downed power lines in Fargo. Xcel Energy reported 780 costumers lost power Saturday. Fargo and West Fargo Fire departments responded to nearly two-dozen reports of arching wires Saturday morning.
The snow system also affected air travel into and out of the area. All morning departures from Hector International Airport were delayed or cancelled, and several arrival flights were cancelled.
