Man arrested after being aggressive with officers outside West Fargo middle school

WEST FARGO (KFGO) – A man was arrested and taken to the Cass County Jail after dropping off a child at Cheney Middle School on Tuesday morning.

The West Fargo Police Department tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the intersection of 9th Street and 13th Avenue East around 8:45 a.m.

Officers say the driver of the vehicle, 43-year-old Lee Smith, refused to pull over and continued toward Cheney Middle School.

A juvenile passenger got out of the vehicle in the drop-off lane at the school. Officers say Smith then exited the vehicle and immediately became aggressive with officers.

Smith was arrested before the situation could escalate further.

West Fargo Police arrested Smith for misdemeanor fleeing a peace officer and misdemeanor preventing arrest.

He was cleared by Sanford Ambulance at the scene and taken to the Cass County Jail.
