1st Avenue reconstruction project in downtown Moorhead.
MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The City of Moorhead is looking for feedback from the public on part of a major reconstruction project downtown.
They want to hear your ideas about 1st Avenue North from 12th Street to Highway 10.
Discussions so far have focused on deteriorating pavement, medians and safety for people walking or biking.
“Looking at 1st Avenue is really kind of a mobility corridor for both automobiles, but also for bikes and pedestrians. We really want to make sure the corridor is safe and is connected,” explained Wade Kline, KLJ Engineering.
Engineers and the city are gathering feedback and will decide on next steps no later than August.
“At this point, it’s part of the process where we want to hear from residents. You know, there is a good opportunity to provide ideas and suggestions that we can take those into process before we get too far into the design phase and it’s tough to make changes. Now is the time, and we’re all ears to hear what the community is interested in,” said Kline.
On the project information page, the city has published an interactive map where residents and business owners can input feedback with ideas or areas of concern along 1st Avenue.
Timing for the reconstruction is dependent on funding, but the project is tentatively planned for 2027 or 2028.
The city will coordinate improvements along 1st Avenue North with MnDOT.
- MnDOT is planning a project on Highway 10 and Highway 75 through Downtown in 2027.
- MnDOT is planning to reconstruct Highway 10/ Highway 75 (Center Avenue) from 13th Street through 34th Street in 2029 and 2030.
