Our mom, Lois Althea Kicker died March, 11, 2026. She is greatly missed by family and friends, having loved us all and having always shown kindness and Christ’s love to those around her.
Lois was born in Crookston, MN, to Emil and Ada (Lymburner) Johnson on April 14, 1935. Lois attended a one-room school until high school in Crookston. She was very musical, singing solos at church, singing in choirs, playing piano, organ, and accordion. Lois graduated from Moorhead State College where she played the double bass like her great grandson, Josiah. She taught grade school in Fargo and Moorhead.
Lois not only expertly painted pictures, but she could decorate cakes to look like pictures. She was a master seamstress, even sewing wedding dresses. She was a quilter at Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake, where she was a member, and made custom quilts for grandchildren as they graduated. Lois loved playing games, like cards with kids, grandkids and friends, often dominoes with friends after church. Lois traveled extensively during her life to most of the United States including Alaska, and many countries even in Europe and Africa. Entertaining family and friends at her home on Leek/Trowbridge Lake gave her great joy.
Lois and Ronald Walker were married June 6th, 1954, and had four children, Pamela (Jon) Johnson, Debra Walker, John (Deb Sonnenberg) Walker and Ivan Walker. On April 30, 1988, Lois and Jerome Kicker were married and Valerie (Steve) Larson, LaVonne (Ed) Nordgulen, Cindy (Randy) Beckett and Elana (Rahn) Bergee were added to her family. She is survived by sister-in-law, Joyce Dudley; many nieces and nephews; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; plus Jerry’s 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her four siblings; husbands, Ron and Jerry; and stepdaughter, Valerie.
Visitation will be 11:00am on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Her funeral service will be at noon with lunch following, at Valley Christian Church in Moorhead, MN, where Lois raised her children and was a charter member. She will be buried at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, MN, on Monday, March 30th, 2026.
