sheriff's deputies on scene of armed standoff in Appleton, Minn.
APPLETON, Minn. (KFGO) – Prosecutors have charged an Appleton couple with attempted murder, assault and gun-related crimes following an hours-long standoff in Appleton last Friday.
Brandon Corbett, 32, and 36-year-old Sujin Corbett were arrested nearly five hours after Swift County deputies, Appleton police and other law enforcement officers responded to a wooded area to investigate a report that two people were breaking into a car and firing shots.
The complaint says Brandon Corbett fired five shots at a house while the owner was inside. Another witness reported that he saw Sujin Corbett also fired at the home. 15 bullet holes were found.
They’re also accused of shooting at officers, who returned fire until the couple got back into their car. They were eventually arrested when less-lethal rounds and tear gas were deployed. Police say the couple appeared to be under the influence of drugs. They were taken to separate hospitals before they were transported to the Douglas County Jail in Alexandria. No officers were hurt. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is handling the investigation.
Appleton is about 140 miles south of Fargo-Moorhead.
