LUTSEN, Minn. (KFGO) – An investigation is underway into the cause of a large fire at a lodge near the town of Lutsen, a popular destination on Lake Superior’s north shore in northeastern Minnesota.
Cook County officials say it happened at Caribou Highlands Lodge at Lutsen Mountains.
Crews were called to a report of smoke coming out of the back of a townhome structure around 2 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters reported a building containing three townhomes was fully engulfed and authorities evacuated neighboring buildings.
No one was hurt and deputies are asking the public to stay away from the area.
This fire comes about two years after a fire at another Lutsen-area resort.
Investigators in that case determined it was caused intentionally. The resort’s owner is charged with arson, but appeared in court last week to contest the charges.
