Highway Patrol says traffic violation text is a scam

FARGO (KFGO) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol says if you receive a text claiming you owe money for a traffic or toll violation, it’s a scam. 

Troopers say a text is circulating claiming you must pay a fine within 12 hours or your vehicle registration could be temporarily suspended. 

It also threatens possible legal action and negative credit reporting.

The Highway Patrol says the message pressures you into clicking a link or sending payment.

Authorities say don’t click the link, report the text as spam, and delete it.
