MOORHEAD (KFGO/KVRR) — Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson plans to announce the members of an a temporary committee this week to look into possible actions the city can take on concerns about immigration enforcement, according to city manager Dan Mahli.
The announcement follows a workshop on the topic attended by city leaders last week.
During Monday night’s city council meeting, council members Deb White and Emily Moore said volunteers are still delivering food to dozens of families in the community because they are scared to leave their homes.
Members have disagreed at past meetings about what can actually be done legally to prevent ICE from such things as using city-owned parking lots and schools for conducting operations. White says the council does agree that people who are breaking the law, whether citizens or non-citizens or federal agents, should all be held accountable.
A few people who live in Moorhead got up at Monday night’s council meeting and urged members to do something right now to address the issue.
