Terry Steinwand (Burleigh Morton Detention Center)
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) — The former director of the North Dakota Game and Fish Department is now expected to plead guilty to gross sexual imposition.
Terry Steinwand is charged with inappropriately touching a young girl he knew multiple times. Court records say the girl told a counselor Steinwand also forced her to touch him inappropriately. He was arrested in September 2025, and pleaded not guilty. A jury trial that was scheduled to start this week was cancelled, and a change of plea hearing is now set for March 4.
Steinwand spent 40 years with game and fish. He retired as director in July of 2021. He was appointed by then-governor John Hoeven in 2006.
