Fatal house fire north of Bemidji on Feb. 16, 2026.
BEMIDJI, Minn. (KFGO) – One person was found dead after the Bemidji Fire Department extinguished a house fire north of the city.
Firefighters responded to the 12000 block of Peterson Lake Road NE, about 15 miles north of Bemidji, just before 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16.
When they arrived on scene, firefighters found a large residential structure that had been completely consumed by fire and collapsed into the basement.
A total of 28 firefighters and 11 pieces of equipment were on scene for approximately 6 hours. The building and its contents are a total loss.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters located one deceased individual inside the home.
No firefighters were hurt and the fire remains under investigation.
Bemidji Ambulance, North Country First Responders, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Beltrami Electric Cooperative and Minnesota State Fire Marshal assisted the Bemidji Fire Department at the scene.
