It took the longest time when I was growing up for the Heitkamp household to get a TV with a remote. Not to mention getting a second TV. And that one was in the girl’s room with rabbit ears, so as you’d expect, I wasn’t allowed to use that one. So the TV in the living room was all I had, along with nine other people in the house.
Now, you need to remember that I was the youngest. So who do you think was told to get up and change the channel? And change the channel I did.
The point is, now it’s easy to change the channel. That’s why I can’t figure out why it was so hard for some of you to hit one button on a remote to quit watching Bad Bunny during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. You didn’t change it, because just like me, you were interested in it.
I wasn’t the target audience for the NFL, they already have me for football. It’s clear what they were trying to do was connect to and grow a whole new audience. One that leads to expansion of the league into areas that speak Spanish.
So congratulations to them! They knew it would bring the wrath of the President on them and did it anyway. They stuck to their guns and the ratings paid off. Now, if they could just teach Republicans in Congress that same thing.
Donald Trump posted a racist video of the Obamas depicted as apes. He knew exactly what it meant and what reaction he would get. You’ll never convince me otherwise. He did it on his social media, and he should own it.
The difference this time is that in the last election, a large percent of Blacks voted Republican. And those people also vote for Senators and Governors. So maybe, just maybe, some of those Republicans in Congress are NFL fans. Maybe they learned you can take on Trump without fear and win.
Good riding with you,
Joel
