DICKINSON, N.D. (KFGO) – The Dickinson School District may be out nearly $5 million.
The southwestern North Dakota district and police say the district has been the target of a sophisticated email fraud scheme where two vendor payments from a building fund were redirected to a fraudulent account. Dickinson Public Schools says the scam is commonly known as “business email compromise.”
Because of the scope of the fraud, the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office have joined the investigation.
The district says efforts to recover the money, about $4.92 million, are underway and there will be no disruption to classroom budgets, services or daily operations.
