FERTILE, Minn. (KVRR) – Smiley’s Rescues in Fertile, Minnesota says nearly all of 50 animals rescued from a home with hoarder-like conditions are responding well to medical treatment and will soon be ready for adoption.
27 adult cats, 15 kittens, three senior dogs and five guinea pigs were rescued from a North Dakota home last month and taken to Smiley’s Rescues. The environment where the animals were found and likely cases of inbreeding means of the 15 kittens rescued, only four have a chance to survive.
“There was urine and feces everywhere in the home,” said Sid Olson of Smiley’s.
Smiley’s says taking in the animals was difficult but they did their best to accommodate them all. Olson says she’s been overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support for the animals.
“They’re all doing incredibly awesome,” said Olson. “People have completely stepped up helping us with financial support so we could get everybody fixed”.
Smiley’s Rescues is holding a open house fundraiser on Giving Hearts Day, February 12, where they hope to receive donations and adopt out as many animals as they can.
