Signage at Atomic Coffee Friday, January 30.
FARGO (KFGO) — About a dozen businesses in Fargo did not open Friday, joining others around the nation in a protest over immigration enforcement in Minnesota.
Unglued was one of those businesses participating in the ICE OUT protests. Manager Kristina Lau says the decision to close was easy to make.
“We thought it was really important to participate in this to show our solidarity with everything that’s happening across our country to help fighting its facism, and abolish I.C.E. and what they’re doing,” Lau said. “The inhumane treatment of people is something that we are seeing a lot of right now, and we want to make sure that we are part of the people that are standing up and saying this is not okay.”
Other businesses chose to open. Black Coffee and Waffle Bar said in a statement closing Friday was not finically viable. Some stores that opened, like Thunder Coffee, donated a portion of proceeds to non-profits.
