Sarrell Jack, Bemidji, MN (Beltrami County Jail)
BEMIDJI, Minn. (KFGO) – A woman’s drug overdose has resulted in a murder charge for another woman who allegedly provided the drugs.
The Bemidji Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18.
Officers arrived at an apartment at 1830 Conifer Avenue Northwest and found the woman lying on the floor, unconscious without a pulse, and blue around her lips and extremities.
A small plastic pipe used to ingest drugs was located next to the woman. Police also found a straw with burnt residue and a lighter on the kitchen counter.
An officer administered Narcan and performed chest compressions. Bemidji Ambulance personnel were able to regain a pulse and the woman was taken to the hospital.
Law enforcement talked to multiple witnesses at the apartment. One of them said a 5-year-old child told them the victim was asleep in the bathroom.
Witnesses told police the victim had been in contact with Sarrell Jack earlier in the day. Officers confirmed this through social media messages and after gaining access to the victim’s phone.
The next day, investigators were informed by hospital staff that the woman died from a drug overdose.
Investigators served a search warrant at Jack’s residence on Jan. 19. According to court records, law enforcement found multiple Narcan rescue doses, a digital scale with a white powdery residue, a roll of tinfoil on Jack’s bed, a plastic bag containing methamphetamine, multiple micro bags, and two tinfoil bindles containing suspected fentanyl.
Investigators say the meth weighed over 10 grams and the fentanyl weighed in excess of 1 gram.
Sarrell Jack was arrested on Jan. 20. Officers say she was found hiding in a vehicle under a pile of household items.
Jack denied knowledge of any drugs in her apartment, but admitted that she had been living there for three years.
Jack is charged with third-degree murder and third-degree drug possession.
