FARGO (KFGO) – A former Democratic candidate for North Dakota’s seat in Congress says he’s running again.
Trygve Hammer of Minot hopes to challenge Republican Rep. Julie Fedorchak in November. Hammer made the announcement on KFGO News and Views. He said Fedorchak, a strong supporter of President Trump, has accomplished very little.
“None of the stuff we talked about the last campaign – more affordable housing, affordable healthcare. All of those things have not happened,” Hammer says. “We’ve gotten Venezuela. We’ve gotten tariffs. We’re looking at Greenland. We have wrecked ag markets. There’s a lot of consternation out there. A lot of people aren’t getting what they voted for.”
Hammer lost to Fedorchak in 2024. He says she has not taken a stand on many issues, including the Trump Administration’s ICE crackdown in Minnesota.
“She stays silent on the federal occupation of Minneapolis and the way ICE is operating with all that barbarity and unprofessionalism,” Hammer says.
Fedorchak picked up about 69% of the vote and is seeking another two-year term. Fedorchak is also facing a challenge for the nomination from within her own party. Alex Balazs of Cando announced last month that he’ll run.
Balazs captured the endorsement at the state Republican convention, but lost to Fedorchak in the primary.
Hammer is a retired Marine, teacher, counselor, railroad conductor and oil field worker.
