PERLEY, Minn. (KFGO) – Nineteen fire departments from both Minnesota and North Dakota responded to an elevator fire in Norman County Thursday night.
The sheriff’s office got a call around 6 p.m. on Dec. 18 to the Georgetown Farmer’s Elevator in Perley, Minnesota, which is along Highway 75 about 25 minutes north of Moorhead.
The fire was reported by someone driving by who saw smoke coming from the elevator. The Minnesota State Patrol shut down a section of Highway 75 during the response.
Norman County Emergency Manager Gary Johanson and says the elevator was not destroyed and damage appears to be limited.
Fire officials say it took about 3 hours to get the fire out. The Hendrum Fire Department and Norman County Sheriff’s Office remained on scene to monitor things after that.
Fire departments responded from Norman, Polk, Mahnomen, and Clay counties in Minnesota; as well as from Traill County, North Dakota.
Johanson says the source of the fire appears to have been electrical. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal is investigating.
