FARGO (KFGO) – A man is in jail after police say he brought a flare gun into a business in downtown Fargo and pointed it at officers.
Police were called to a business in the 100 block of Broadway North around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4 to remove a man causing a disturbance. Staff called 911 and said the man walked into a bathroom with a flare gun.
Officers found the man in the bathroom and say he pointed the flare gun at one of the officers and barricaded himself in a bathroom stall.
Police say 35-year-old Samuel Platt refused to put down the flare gun and surrender to officers, despite repeated orders to do so. Officers fired pepper balls at the bathroom stall door and Platt opened the door, pointing the flare gun at officers.
An officer fired pepper balls at Platt, and another officer fired a less-lethal impact projectile that hit Platt. He was taken into custody and Fargo Police seized the flare gun, which was loaded with a flare, and additional flares that were in Platt’s possession.
Platt, who has no permanent address, was taken to a local healthcare facility to be medically cleared before he was booked into the Cass County Jail for terrorizing, preventing arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass.
