MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Over 100 students were protesting near 4th Avenue S. and 21st Street S. in Moorhead Wednesday to bring awareness to a number of social justice issues.
The protest was called “Rally for Justice.” The students held signs and chanted things like ‘Save Kids, Not Guns’ and ‘Immigrants Are Not The Problem.’
“I’m really proud of my peers,” Moorhead High School student and event organizer Cherish Lee said. “I’m really proud of them for coming out and showing their voice, using their voice for the right motives. I’m really proud of people for showing the signs off and interacting with others in a kind and respectful way.
In a statement, Moorhead Area Public Schools said it supports students’ rights to express their views in a respectful and responsible manner. Our focus during the school day will remain on maintaining a safe, orderly learning environment and ensuring that students who choose to participate, or not participate, can do so safely and without disruption to the educational process.
If students choose to participate, we will not stop them. Students not attending class will be marked Absent. If parents call it in it will be excused, otherwise it will be considered an unexcused absence.
