ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – Law enforcement is trying to educate Minnesotans about cannabis expungements under the new adult-use law.
Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans says cases will no longer appear on most criminal background checks.
Evans says thousands of marijuana-related crimes, misdemeanor convictions and and some cases not resulting in a conviction have already been automatically sealed. More complex misdemeanors and felonies are under review by the Cannabis Expungement Board.
Evans says the bureau is working to identify additional records that may quality for automatic expungement.
