ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is suing Kittson County Sheriff Matt Vig, accusing him of issuing a fake hunting tag to a farmer who killed an elk near his property.
The lawsuit claims Vig told the farmer he wouldn’t face charges for taking the animal without a state license.
The DNR is asking the court to block the sheriff from issuing permits, saying only the agency has the authority to decide who can hunt or possess wild animals in Minnesota.
