Weekly CO report
District 1 – Baudette area

CO Coby Fontes (Warroad South) spent time at the Conservation Officer Academy assisting with trapping week. Fontes also spent time patrolling the Beltrami Island State Forest. Enforcement action was taken for driving after revocation, operating an uninsured vehicle, and operating an ATV without headlights illuminated.
CO Nicholas Prachar (Baudette West) reports significant angling activity on Lake of the Woods. Fishing success has slowed, but some anglers were able to boat some quality fish. Enforcement action was taken for no angling license in possession and driving while intoxicated.
CO Paul Kennedy (Baudette East) worked angling activity on Rainy River and Lake of the Woods. Reports varied among anglers in the area. He also assisted the CO Academy during trapping week at Camp Ripley. ATV activity was monitored and patrolled in the Beltrami State Forest. Enforcement action for the week included no license in possession, illegal-length fish, and overlimit of walleyes.
CO Bobby Stringer (Thief River Falls West) reports an abundance of angling and ATV activity during the week as the weather cooperated throughout the region. The evening bite on the Red Lake River produced some results. Stringer reports an increase in bear bait barrels and supplies moving north along state highways and roads. Stringer wants to remind all that bear baiting does not begin until Aug. 15. Enforcement actions for the week included a variety of ATV-related violations, no angling license, and no angling license in possession.
CO Nick Bruesewitz (Karlstad) reports checking shore anglers fishing the Red Lake River. They were having some success. Time was spent assisting with the Marshall County 4-H youth fishing event.
CO Brice Vollbrecht (Blackduck North) checked anglers on Upper Red Lake. Time was also spent patrolling state forest roads for ATV activity.
CO Brianna Shaw (Blackduck South) spent the week patrolling for sport fishing and recreational vehicle activity. Additional time was spent working boat and water safety. Enforcement action was taken for safety equipment violations.
District 2 – Bemidji area

CO Andrew Goodman (Perham) worked boating and angling activity on area lakes throughout the week and weekend. Off-highway vehicle enforcement remains persistent, with a variety of operators found operating on the roadway. Additional time was spent responding to a personal watercraft injury accident, wildlife-related calls, hunting season questions from the public, and investigating illegal aquatic plant removal.
CO Jake Swedberg (Detroit Lakes) spent the week patrolling area ATV trails, assisting at the CO Academy, and following up on wildlife-related complaints in the area. One complaint involved a fawn being kept at a residence. Swedberg would like to remind people that wild animals are not pets and there are specific rehabilitation facilities across the state that specialize in orphaned animals.
CO William Landmark (Moorhead) spent the week assisting with CO Academy instruction, responding to TIP calls, and following up with ongoing and new wetland violation cases.
CO Angela Warren (Mahnomen) worked ATV and off-road vehicle activity. Time was also spent on angling and boating activity. AIS regulation compliance was monitored. Warren spoke at the White Earth Lake Association annual meeting.
CO Matthew Boyle (Pelican Rapids) spent time patrolling for ATV and off-highway motorcycle activity. Several violations were observed and dealt with. Boyle spent an afternoon flying his station with a DNR Enforcement pilot. Several shoreline violations were located. The fishing bite slowed throughout the week, but some success in deep water with nightcrawlers was reported for walleyes.
CO Brady Manteufel (Bagley) checked anglers at area lakes this week. He also conducted boating safety checks. Questions were answered about fishing, boating regulations, and wildlife. A calf attack was also investigated. ATV enforcement was conducted. Violations included operating with no lights on and registration-display issues. Education on the differences between an off-road vehicle and a Class 2 ATV was provided. Manteufel would like to remind everyone to do your research on size restrictions and places allowed to operate before making purchases.
CO Jamus Veit (Bemidji #2) spent the week attending firearms instructor training and answering questions from the public.
District 3 – Fergus Falls area

CO Tricia Plautz (Henning) followed up on waters complaints, nuisance-animal calls, and assisted the CO Academy with scenario evaluations this week.
CO Ryan Brown (Elbow Lake) reports focusing his enforcement efforts on angling and ATV activity during the week. He saw an increase in ATV operators over the weekend. Violations encountered included ATV youth helmet violation, no ATV safety certificate, and no angling license in possession.
CO Shane Osborne (Evansville) worked with local government units on wetland, public water, and aquatic plant management complaints. Injured-animal and dock-placement complaints were received and handled. Fishing activity has slowed on area lakes.
CO Jake Homan (Alexandria) spent the week patrolling Douglas County for angling, recreational boating, and ATV activities. Operators are reminded that legal PWC hours are 9:30 a.m. to one hour before sunset. Enforcement action was taken for a variety of ATV, angling, and boating violations.
CO Curtis Jepson (Wheaton) started on Saturday as the new area conservation officer. He took some time to patrol the area to familiarize himself with the new station. Also, earlier in the week, he attended the Family Night Out Event in Traverse County to meet and answer questions from the community.
CO Emily Douvier (Morris) reports working fishing and boating activity. Enforcement action was taken for fishing without a license.
Glenwood – vacant.
District 4 – Walker area

CO Landyn Saewert (Wadena) monitored angling and off-highway vehicle activity and attended the Minnesota Trappers Association convention. Time was also spent on the Fishhook River for the Park Rapids fireworks. A firearms safety field day was attended at the Knob Hill Sportsman’s Club. Enforcement action was taken for various ATV violations, fishing violations, and operating a PWC after one hour before sunset.
CO Patrick McGowan (Cass Lake) worked Cass County lakes throughout the week for boating and angling activity. McGowan also assisted at Camp Ripley with training of the new class of conservation officers. Enforcement action was taken for numerous boating violations.
CO Jacque Johnson (Longville) spoke at a firearms safety class, responded to a medical, and investigated a trespassing complaint. Enforcement action was taken for multiple boating and fishing violations.
CO Levi Brown (Staples) attended an instructor course during the week. Over the weekend, Brown focused on enforcing PWC laws. He has had multiple complaints of PWC violations on local lakes, including people operating after legal hours.
CO Corey Sura (Remer) continued to work angling activity on area lakes and began preparations for the quickly arriving fall seasons. Enforcement action was taken for anglers fishing without licenses and no life jackets for four occupants on a pontoon.
