MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is releasing more details about a pursuit in Clay County and a standoff in Moorhead Monday.
Sheriff Mark Empting says 42-year-old Christopher Ringsrud-Knowels of Arvilla, North Dakota fled deputies during a traffic stop and eventually broke into a house and barricaded himself inside. A woman and child in the home safely exited when law enforcement arrived.
The standoff ended several hours later.
Empting says a bag thrown from the window of the vehicle during the pursuit had a gun and ammunition inside. The Red River Valley Bomb Team searched the vehicle and found mortar-style fireworks.
Ringsrud-Knowels is in the Clay County jail. He faces a number of charges, including burglary, felon with a gun, fleeing, and traffic violations.
Last month, Ringsrud-Knowels was charged with possessing explosives in Grand Forks County after a state trooper found him and another man with a home-made explosive during a traffic stop on I-29.
A woman with Ringsrud-Knowels during Monday’s pursuit, 30-year-old Alexandria Lang of Fargo, is being held at the Clay County jail for aiding an offender and obstruction.
