
Weekly CO report
District 1 – Baudette area

CO Tony Hams (Warroad North) spent the week checking area anglers, monitoring ATV traffic, and following up with various complaints. Violations encountered were operating personal watercrafts without registration and operating PWCs withing 150 feet of shore.
CO Paul Kennedy (Baudette East) assisted during a site visit related to an ongoing wetlands violation. He continued working nearby lakes and rivers for angling activity. Several anglers reported shortening their trips due to heavy smoke in the area. ATV patrol also continued throughout the week.
CO Bobby Stringer (Thief River Falls West) reports a good showing for the Pennington County Sportsmen’s Club Northern Pike Youth Fishing Derby. Lines were tight as kids were successful throughout the Red Lake River. Overall, boaters employed a safe mindset with only minor violations noted. Other enforcement actions for the week included no angling license in possession, no type IV throwable device immediately available, several ATV-related violations, and negligent or careless acts resulting in a fire.
CO Nick Bruesewitz (Karlstad) spent the week checking shore anglers and working ATV traffic. Time was spent investigating a waterway violation where an individual made a dam out of rocks in a river.
CO Brice Vollbrecht (Blackduck North) spent time checking anglers on Upper Red Lake. The bite has slowed, and the fish have spread out. He patrolled area forest roads and ATV trails.
CO Brianna Shaw (Blackduck South) spent the week patrolling for angling and recreational vehicle activity. Additional time was spent investigating an aquatic plant management permit violation and abandoned property on public land. Shaw also patrolled Lake Winnibigoshish with CO Brown. Enforcement action was taken for no navigation lights after sunset.
District 2 – Bemidji area

CO Andrew Goodman (Perham) continued to focus on boat and water recreation safety and ATV enforcement. Thick smoke slowed activity for a portion of the weekend, with relief coming Sunday afternoon. Angling activity has picked up with a few area lakes producing good fish numbers. Enforcement action was taken for angling without a license, failure to display watercraft registration, no navigation lights, and various ATV violations.
CO Jake Swedberg (Detroit Lakes) spent the week assisting at the CO Academy and following up on cases from the holiday weekend. Swedberg and K9 Axel also helped with an AIS detail in Otter Tail County.
CO Jordan Anderson (Osage) worked boating, fishing, and ATV activity in the station. Spotty storms have impacted trails, so users should be cautious for downed trees on trails and forest roads. Aquatic plant violations are being investigated, as well as the theft of commercial minnow equipment.
CO William Landmark (Moorhead) spent the week following up on calls and ongoing cases. Time was also spent assisting with boat operation instruction at the CO Academy. Calls from the public included reports of injured animals, reports of commercial minnow trap tampering, and illegal possession of wildlife. Landmark also assisted local law enforcement agencies on medical calls involving unresponsive persons. Enforcement action was taken for failure to comply with a wetland restoration order.
CO Angela Warren (Mahnomen) worked angling and boating activity. AIS compliance was monitored. Patrol was conducted for off-road vehicle and ATV activity.
CO Brady Manteufel (Bagley) checked areas throughout the Wilton ATV Trail system and Beltrami County forests, following up on litter and dumping complaints. An abandoned boat in the forest was investigated and a few locations were found with appliances, furniture, cans, glass, and burn piles. Cleanup was conducted in a couple locations to assist Forestry. Manteufel also spent time assisting with training the CO Academy on water survival this week. Public accesses and lands were patrolled and ATV enforcement for no lights on and no registration display was taken. Assistance was given to an area county deputy with a single-vehicle accident and first aid was provided to the driver.
CO Jamus Veit (Bemidji #2) spent the week monitoring angling/boating activity, assisting with training at the CO Academy, and answering questions from the public. Time was also spent patrolling forest roads and trails for ATV activity.
CO Curtis Jepson (District #2) focused on ATV, AIS, and angling enforcement. Angling and boating activity slowed as smoke settled in from Canadian wildfires at the end of the week. Various wildlife-related questions were also answered.
District 3 – Fergus Falls area

CO Tricia Plautz (Henning) monitored fishing, boating, and invasive species enforcement through the week. A littering complaint was handled, bear sightings were received, and a call of a captive raccoon was investigated. An AIS detail was attended, with enforcement action taken for illegally transporting aquatic vegetation.
CO Ryan Brown (Elbow Lake) reports monitoring angling and boating activity during the week. TIP complaints were also received and fielded. Brown and other COs conducted an AIS compliance check station over the weekend.
CO Shane Osborne (Evansville) checked anglers, ATV riders, and boaters. He also focused on aquatic plant management violations. Osborne participated in an AIS detail in Otter Tail County. Training was given to CO candidates at Camp Ripley.
CO Jake Homan (Alexandria) spent the week patrolling Douglas County for ATV and boating activities. Time was spent assisting with officer water survival training at the CO Academy. He provided a law and ethics talk to at a firearms safety class. Enforcement action was taken for a variety of angling and boating activities.
CO Felicia Znajda (Osakis) spent her week patrolling for angling, boating, and ATV activity. Numerous violations were encountered throughout the weekend, including a minor consuming alcohol. She spent time at Camp Ripley teaching water survival tactics to the newest Academy class. Znajda participated in an AIS detail and served on Honor Guard for the funeral of Minnesota State Trooper Mollie McClure.
CO Emily Douvier (Morris) reports working fishing and boating enforcement. Enforcement action was taken for wanton waste, PFD violations, and leaving a fish house at a public access.

District 4 – Walker area

CO Landyn Saewert (Wadena) continued working angling and ATV activity throughout the week. A few anglers were checked. Fishing has been on the slower side. He assisted a local sheriff’s office with a vehicle pursuit where the suspects fled on foot. Both suspects were located and arrested. Several ATV trails were checked after storms moved through the area. Some ATV trails in Huntersville State Forest have downed trees.
CO Patrick McGowan (Cass Lake) assisted at Camp Ripley for CO Academy watercraft training. The new recruits were taught patrol tactics in a watercraft and state boating statutes. McGowan also took numerous calls from people with questions on various topics.
CO Corey Sura (Remer) assisted with the first of two weeks of watercraft training for cadets at Camp Ripley.
CO Levi Brown (Staples) spent time this week training the CO Academy. He also spent time focusing on boat and water enforcement. With the boating season well under way, please make sure all your safety equipment is on board before going on the water.
CO Jacque Johnson (Longville) investigated PWC, shoreline, litter, trapping, and trespassing violations. She also responded to a vehicle crash.
