Although numerous farm-related policy priorities were passed in the recent “One Big Beautiful Bill,” there’s still more work to be done to protect soybean farmers and improve the ag economy. To keep agriculture moving forward, the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association returns to Capitol Hill July 15-17 to speak with House and Senate leaders as part of the American Soybean Association’s annual summer hill visits.
In early July, Congress passed a budget reconciliation, which provided protections for farmers, support for the biodiesel industry and secured a number of other critical farm-related policy priorities. However, MSGA leaders are still eager to visit with Minnesota’s congressional delegation on a number of other key farm-related issues, including trade, the MAHA Commission report, biofuels, access to crop inputs and more.
“We’re lucky in that we have champions of agriculture representing Minnesota in D.C., and I’m looking forward to those conversations with our lawmakers about those important issues impacting farmers,” said Darin Johnson, a Wells farmer and MSGA president. “I also know they enjoy visiting with us because we’re their eyes, ears and boots on the ground that can bring those issues on the farm back to D.C.”
Joining Johnson in Washington D.C., will be MSGA Treasurer Rose Wendinger, Secretary Kyle Jore and ASA Directors Jamie Beyer, George Goblish, Adam Guetter, Jim Kukowski, Jeff Sorenson and Bob Worth. Also participating and getting their first taste of federal advocacy will be two recent graduates of the ASA Corteva Agriscience Young Leader program, Raymond DeMars and Rebecca Sip.
In conjunction with the Hill Visits, which take place on Wednesday, July 16, farmer leaders will also participate in the ASA board meeting on Thursday, July 17.
