FARGO (KFGO) – Mayor Tim Mahoney has declared a state of emergency ahead of planned protests Friday and Saturday.
Mahoney says the declaration is a precaution in case violence breaks out during the demonstrations. It’s the third time in as many weeks the city has issued an emergency declaration.
The first was the night of May 30 when rioting broke out downtown. The second declaration was June 5 when several thousand people turned out for a rally at Island Park. That event was peaceful. The North Dakota National Guard was activated both times to assist law enforcement in Fargo.
Mahoney says the National Guard will not be activated this time.
